Breckenridge Ski Resort - Peak's trail

Mountain Biking & Hiking

The Fricenridge Trailhead, so named by the trail creator Paul "Crash" Kuske (a.k.a. the Peaks Trailhead), is located just ½ mile away on Ski Hill Road and the home is close to several of the countries best mountain biking and hiking trails. Just head out the driveway and your mountain biking or hiking experience can begin.

The Fricenridge / Peaks Trail (Biking/Hiking)

The most ridden trail in the area is possibly the Fricenridge / Peaks Trail between Breckenridge and Frisco. It is approximately 15 kilometres of varied singletrack, there are some short ascents, but most of it is descent. The Peaks Trail has long sections of fast winding singletrack, there are some rock gardens, and some demanding sections, steep, rooty and rocky. It is great fun. Head west on Ski Hill Road to the top of the curves and you'll be at the trailhead. Then it is pure joy, traversing the slopes, through woods and meadows, all the way down to Frisco.

Boreas Pass Road  (Biking/Hiking)

Directions to Trailhead: Go South on Hwy 9 through Breckenridge. On the south side of the town, turn left onto Cnty rd. 10 (Boreas Pass Road). Drive up 3.5 miles to the end of the pavement. Park at the side of the road, and start riding up the road.

About This Trail: The road leading up the pass is built on an old railroad bed. This ride is an excellent place for beginners, and anyone wanting to experience the Rockies.

Burro Trail & Mayflower Lake (Biking/Hiking)

About This Trail: This is a Forest Service trail that starts out at the ski resort. As you get closer to Mayflower lake, the trail becomes a steady climb. Some parts of this trail require walking.

Trail Description: Start at the south side of the parking lot, and at the Forest Service trailhead sign. Follow the dirt road to another trailhead sign at the other side of the ski run. The whole trail is marked by a series of blue diamonds, so follow those all the way to the lake 6 miles up.

Boonedoggle  (Biking/Hiking)

About This Trail: Boonedoggle trail is the only singletrack currently on Copper Mountain and is a downhill only trail. Starting at the top of the American Eagle chairlift the singletrack switchbacks you down the ski slope. There are plenty of opportunities for good rides on Copper Mountain even though there is only 1 singletrack trail. When you are dropped off of the eagle chairlift you can continue to go uphill using service road. This meandering road will test your lungs as you grind up above tree line. Views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking.

The base of Copper Mountain offers a large fenced off dirt course called the American Eagle Skills Arena that mountain bikers of all abilities can test their skills on. Man made dirt, wood and stone obstacles are placed all over the course and the possibilities are only limited by your ability and imagination. Once your off the bike you can enjoy all the benefits you would come to expect of a ski resort in the summer. Local brewery's, coffee shops, gift shops and condos all help you enjoy the couple of hours at night that you are unable to ride your bike.

Trail Description: There are 2 ways to access this trailhead. The first is for those that would like a good work-out before hitting the downhill only Boonedoggle trail. The second is to pay the fee for you and your bike to ride up the mountain on the chairlift. No matter how you get there you will come to singletrack trail that splits from A-Road. From here it is all down hill and you won't get lost because this is the only singletrack on the mountain. From the trailhead head down the ski mountain. 0.4 miles the singletrack crosses the service road. 1.6 miles you come across a second crossing of the service road. Cross over the service road and continue the singletrack on the other side of the road. 2.6 miles cross over a bridge. 2.7 miles cross over a second bridge. 2.8 miles cross over service road. Each time you cross the service road be sure to check for vehicles because they do use this road. 3.0 miles cross over the service road and continue the singletrack on the other side. 3.8 miles cross over the final bridge crossing. Enjoy the last stretch of trail that twists through the surrounding trees and exit at the base of the mountain behind the American Eagle Skills Arena.

Gold Run Gulch  (Biking only)

Directions to Trailhead: From Frisco, head south on 9 for 6.8 miles until you see Tiger Road on your left. Drive up the road along the golf course for under a mile. The trail will be on your right.

Peru Creek  (Biking/Hiking)

Directions to Trailhead: From Interstate 70 exit on ramp 205 to Hwy 6 east towards Dillon. Pass Through Keystone and turn right onto Montezuma Road. Take your First left and follow Montezuma Rd. This will continue for roughly 4.5 miles. The road bends left and crosses Snake River, turn left and park in the Peru Creek Trailhead parking lot.

Recent development requires riding further up Tiger Rd., A right turn on Gold Run Rd. into the development. Continue on Gold Run Rd., as it runs into the old route. This is a good entry into mining roads and trails on Mineral Ridge from Georgia Pass to French Creek.

Sts. Johns Loop  (Biking/Hiking/ATV/Motorcycle/Off-road Vehicles)

About This Trail: This is an absolutely breath taking ride. In more ways than one. The views you experience on this trail make you feel as though you are on top of the world. The altitude you rise to is sure to make your breathing slightly more labored as well. This is a 4WD trail that takes you up over old mines, treeline, and even glaciers. Over 2/3 of this trail is over treeline so be prepared for an early morning ride to avoid the quickly changing weather of Colorado afternoons. The trail is not technically difficult but if your not acclimated to the altitude then it will physically push you. A good ride for any mountain biker either beginner or advanced. Enjoy the Trail!

Trail Description: From the start head South on Montezuma road which is well maintained. Use this as a warm up for about 1 mile. Turn left on to a rocky four-wheel-drive road following signage for Webster Pass. Continue on this road while climbing above tree line skirting the valley. The trail intersects at what looks like the top but, stay right and continue up hill passing a glacier field. Stop and enjoy the view or keep riding for a short descent before an uphill that will most likely make even the most advanced rider walk. Once on top you come to an intersection that will take you back into the valley or continue up along the ridge. Keep going up, skirt another glacier field and see the remains of some old mining equipment. Reach another junction and this time take a left that takes you down a series of switchbacks. Along your descent be sure to notice the old cabin that is in a field of wild flowers. Keep descending, passing through 3 water crossings until you reach the old mining community of Sts. Johns. Descend another couple miles until you reach your car.
